Solar Panel Installation Cost in Loughborough: Real Prices
Last updated: 12th October 2026. Spectrum Energy Systems
Most Loughborough homes pay £9,000 to £9,995 all-in for a 4 to 6kWp solar system with a battery. Scaffolding, labour and 0% VAT (until 31 March 2027) are inside that price. Our crews travel to LE11 and the LE12 villages along the Soar from Bulwell, and the price is the one we charge across the East Midlands.

Real prices in Loughborough
Loughborough is a regular run for us up the A60 from Bulwell, so it gets the same price list as the rest of the region. Fully installed:

Loughborough roofs: what moves a quote, street by street
- Storer Road and Radmoor RoadLoughborough grew from 4,500 people in 1801 to 21,500 in 1901, and these tight grids of terraces date from that boom. The council's Ashby Road appraisal records brick under slate or rosemary tile, with steep slate roofs. Slate takes more care, and the conservation area adds a check. A compact terrace roof suits the £8,500 system.
- ShelthorpeLoughborough Corporation started this estate in 1926 to a plan by Barry Parker, the garden city architect. The houses are brick with plain clay tiled roofs and hipped ends, which leaves smaller faces to work with, and the whole estate is a conservation area.
- Semis and detached housesAcross Charnwood 38.7% of homes are semi-detached and 32.2% detached (Census 2021). The two middle rows of the table are aimed at these houses, and the design settles which one fits.
- The villagesQuorn, Barrow upon Soar, Sileby, Mountsorrel, Shepshed and Hathern are LE12. Domestic designs we have drawn in Quorn, Barrow upon Soar and Shepshed run from 8 to 27 panels.

Charnwood planning and the local grid
Planning in Loughborough goes to Charnwood Borough Council, which adopted its Local Plan for 2021 to 2037 in January 2026. The borough has 38 conservation areas, and eight are in the town: Ashby Road, Cemetery, Church Gate, Emmanuel Church, Leicester Road, Queens Park, Shelthorpe and Victoria Street. The only Article 4 directions the council lists are in part of Mountsorrel and at Ulverscroft Lane in Newtown Linford, so no Loughborough street carries one. Home solar is normally permitted development, and inside a conservation area we check the address before we draw anything.
The local network is National Grid Electricity Distribution's East Midlands area, and NGED's published data includes primary substations at Quorn and Mountsorrel. A standard home system is notified after connection under G98. A larger one needs G99 approval first. That paperwork is part of our job. Only 8.6% of Charnwood homes are in purpose-built flats (Census 2021), so most households here have a roof of their own.
Payback: a worked local example
These are the workings for the £9,995 system. The inputs are the Ofgem price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh (October to December 2026 cap) and 900 to 1,050 kWh generated per kWp each year across the region, using MCS-standard methodology. With those, a 5.7kWp array and a 16.1kWh battery cover their cost in circa 8 years from the imports you no longer buy and the export payments on top. On a two-rate tariff the battery also charges cheaply overnight to see the house through winter, which our time-shifting guide explains. The result is illustrative and carries no guarantee. Your usage and tariff change it, and the savings calculator runs your own figures.
Vetting a Loughborough installer
Before you sign with anyone, check the MCS register to see the certificate is in the company's own name. Ask for the price in writing with scaffolding and electrical work in it, so nothing is added later. And ask for the roof design the quote was priced from. Then check it is the firm's own employed crews doing the work. We do all of that, we handle the NGED side on every job, and our installer-choice guide goes through the rest of the vetting, whoever you pick.

What does solar with a battery cost in Loughborough?
Typical home systems with a battery run from £8,500 to £11,800 all-in. Our standard 5 to 6kWp system with a 16.1kWh battery is £9,995. Scaffolding, electrical work and 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 are included, and panels-only options are priced at the survey.
Do you cover Quorn, Shepshed and the other Charnwood villages?
Yes. Quorn, Barrow upon Soar, Sileby, Mountsorrel, Shepshed, Hathern and the rest of Charnwood are part of our Leicestershire coverage, served by our own crews at town prices, and every job comes with our 5-year workmanship guarantee, insurance-backed through QANW.
Is planning permission needed for solar panels in Loughborough?
Not usually, because home solar is normally permitted development. Listed buildings and the town's eight conservation areas, Shelthorpe and Ashby Road among them, get checked first, and we do that at the survey. Our planning guide has the detail.
Is solar worth it on a Loughborough house?
Leicestershire works out like the rest of the region: 900 to 1,050 kWh per kWp a year, circa 8 years' payback on the £9,995 system, and 25 to 30 year panel warranties running well past that. Our worth-it guide sets out the full case.
Who runs the electricity network in Loughborough?
National Grid Electricity Distribution, as part of its East Midlands area. A standard home system is notified to NGED after connection under G98, while larger systems need G99 approval before they are fitted. Your installer should do both, and we do on every job.
