Solar Panel & Battery Warranties — Spectrum Energy Systems

Solar Panel & Battery Storage Warranties

Multi-layered protection on every Spectrum installation: our 5-year workmanship warranty, an insurance-backed guarantee from QANW, full liability insurance underwritten by QBE UK, and tier-one manufacturer cover lasting up to 30 years.

We've been installing solar across the East Midlands since 2011. Every install is MCS-accredited, RECC-registered and signed off by NICEIC-certified electricians. We also manage every manufacturer warranty claim on your behalf for the lifetime of the system.

5-Year Workmanship Warranty

Covers our installation work (roof penetrations, mounting, weatherproofing, electrical connections and commissioning) from the day we hand the system over.

£10M / £5M / £1M Insurance

£10M Employer's Liability, £5M Public Liability and £1M Professional Indemnity, all underwritten by QBE UK Ltd (A-rated).

QANW Insurance-Backed Guarantee

An IBG sits behind the workmanship warranty: if for any reason Spectrum can't honour it, QANW does. Issued within 30 days of commissioning under the MCS scheme.

Manufacturer Claim Management

We coordinate every manufacturer warranty claim on your behalf, including paperwork, replacements and re-installation. You only talk to us.

How Your System Is Protected

A solar installation has three things that can go wrong: the workmanship, the design, and the equipment. Each is covered by a different mechanism, and as your installer we coordinate all three on your behalf.

Spectrum Workmanship Warranty (5 Years)

This is our cover on the physical installation work performed by our MCS-accredited engineers and NICEIC-certified electricians. It runs for 5 years from commissioning and covers:

  • Roof integrity: roof penetrations, mounting systems and weatherproofing. If something we installed causes property damage through our workmanship (a non-watertight tile, for example), that's on us.
  • Electrical installation: wiring, connections, consumer-unit modifications and electrical integration.
  • Commissioning: system configuration, testing, handover documentation, MCS certificate and DNO sign-off.

Behind the workmanship warranty sits an Insurance-Backed Guarantee from QANW, mandatory under the MCS scheme. If Spectrum can't honour the workmanship warranty for any reason (including ceasing to trade), the IBG provider does, for the remainder of the cover period. Issued automatically within 30 days of commissioning at no extra cost to you.

System design is covered separately by our £1M Professional Indemnity insurance with QBE UK Ltd. If anything we designed proves defective or fails to perform as specified, you're covered.

Equipment defects (faulty panels, inverters or batteries) are covered by the relevant manufacturer warranty, detailed below.

The Three Cover Layers in Plain English

Spectrum Workmanship Warranty (5 years): covers the install work itself. If we did it wrong, we fix it.

QANW Insurance-Backed Guarantee: a safety-net behind the workmanship warranty. Continues if we can't.

QBE Professional Indemnity (£1M): covers system design. If the design we produced doesn't perform as specified, this picks up the cost.

Manufacturer Equipment Warranties (5-30 years): cover product defects. We manage the claims for you.

How Spectrum Manages Warranty Claims

One of the practical benefits of working with us is that we handle every warranty claim on your behalf. You don't deal with the manufacturer, you talk to us.

Our Warranty Claim Process

Step 1: Contact Spectrum. Call us on 0115 773 7575 or email sales@spectrumenergysystems.co.uk. We assess whether the issue is installation (our workmanship warranty) or equipment (manufacturer warranty).

Step 2: Diagnosis. Our engineers determine the root cause through remote monitoring or a site visit. Many issues resolve through a configuration change or simple adjustment, with no warranty claim needed.

Step 3: Warranty assessment. If there's a genuine product defect, we identify which warranty applies and gather the required documentation (serial numbers, install certificate, fault evidence, photos).

Step 4: Manufacturer coordination. We liaise directly with the manufacturer, submitting technical details and supporting paperwork. You don't have to navigate any of it.

Step 5: Resolution & reinstallation. Once the manufacturer approves a repair or replacement, we coordinate logistics, schedule reinstallation of replacement components and verify system operation post-repair.

Step 6: Ongoing monitoring. After the warranty work is complete we continue monitoring system performance to make sure the issue is fully resolved.

Keeping Your Warranty Valid

To maintain valid cover across all components:

  • Register the system with the manufacturer where required. Fogstar's 10-year battery cover, in particular, is activated by post-install registration. We complete this for you at commissioning.
  • Keep your documentation: installation certificate, commissioning report, MCS certificate, IBG certificate, manufacturer registration confirmations.
  • Consider regular maintenance. Our professional maintenance services catch potential issues early and preserve warranty validity.
  • Operate within manufacturer guidelines. Unauthorised modifications or use outside specified parameters will void cover.

Multi-Layered Protection on Every Installation

Workmanship warranty, IBG, professional indemnity, and tier-one manufacturer cover. All coordinated by us for the lifetime of your system.

Frequently Asked Questions About Solar Warranties

What does Spectrum's workmanship warranty cover?
Our workmanship warranty runs for 5 years from commissioning and covers the physical install work: roof penetrations, mounting, weatherproofing, electrical connections, consumer-unit modifications and commissioning. If our work causes a problem (a non-watertight tile, a faulty connection we made), we fix it at no cost. Equipment defects are covered separately by the relevant manufacturer warranty, and system design is covered by our £1M professional indemnity insurance.
What is an Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG) and why do you have one?
An IBG is a separate insurance policy that sits behind the workmanship warranty. If for any reason Spectrum can't honour the workmanship warranty during its 5-year term (including if we cease trading), the IBG provider (QANW) honours it instead. It's mandatory under the MCS scheme, issued automatically within 30 days of commissioning, and costs you nothing extra.
How long are solar panel warranties?
Tier 1 panels from JA Solar, Aiko and LONGi carry 12-15 year product warranties and 30-year linear performance warranties guaranteeing roughly 87-91% of original output at year 30 (Aiko ~88.85%; JA Solar and LONGi ~87.4%). These warranties are standard on every Spectrum installation and are transferable to subsequent property owners.
What inverter warranties are available?
Solis (our default) is covered for 5 years as standard, with paid extensions to 10 or 20 years total cover. SolarEdge inverters carry 12 years standard, with 25 years on the power optimisers and paid extensions available. Sunsynk inverters supplied on customer request are covered for 10 years standard. All inverter warranties cover manufacturing defects and workmanship.
Are battery storage systems covered by warranty?
Yes. Fogstar batteries (our default for domestic) are covered for 10 years from purchase across the 10, 16.1, 32 and 48.3 kWh products. SolarEdge Home Batteries are covered for 10 years with at least 70% energy retention. Pylontech Force-series batteries used on larger commercial installs carry a 10-year warranty with capacity retention guarantees. Sunsynk batteries are covered for 10 years. All battery warranties cover manufacturing defects.
What insurance does Spectrum carry?
£10 million Employer's Liability, £5 million Public Liability and £1 million Professional Indemnity, all underwritten by QBE UK Ltd (A-rated). Professional Indemnity covers any design-related issues that prove defective or fail to perform as specified. The PL and EL cover sit in front of the workmanship warranty for incidents that occur during or as a result of our work.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Contact Spectrum first on 0115 773 7575 or sales@spectrumenergysystems.co.uk. We assess whether the issue relates to installation (our 5-year workmanship warranty) or equipment (manufacturer warranty). For manufacturer claims we handle everything on your behalf, including paperwork, replacements and scheduling the reinstallation.
Can warranties be transferred to new property owners?
Most manufacturer warranties are transferable to subsequent property owners, provided the system remains in its original installation location and operates within specified parameters. Procedures vary by manufacturer: some require written notification, others transfer automatically. We provide the documentation needed to support a transfer when you sell the property.
What voids solar equipment warranties?
Typical exclusions: unauthorised modifications or repairs, installation by a non-accredited installer, operating outside specified parameters, physical damage from accidents or extreme weather events beyond product specifications, and missed registration windows. MCS-accredited installation by Spectrum and proper post-install registration preserve warranty validity throughout system life.
Do I need to register my system for warranty cover?
It depends on the manufacturer. Fogstar batteries require post-install registration to activate the 10-year cover. Solis and SolarEdge don't require registration for standard cover but recommend it for streamlined claims. Sunsynk and Pylontech batteries are registered through the distributor channel. We complete the relevant registrations on your behalf at commissioning.

Why Multi-Layered Protection Matters

A solar system is a significant investment. Typically £8,000 to £20,000 for domestic, £30,000 to over £100,000 for commercial. Three independent cover layers safeguard that investment across the lifetime of the system.

The Cover Stack

Workmanship Warranty (5 Years), backed by QANW IBG: protects against issues arising from how the system was installed.

£1M Professional Indemnity (QBE UK): protects against issues arising from how the system was designed.

£10M EL + £5M PL Insurance (QBE UK): covers liability for injury or damage during or arising from our work.

Equipment Warranties (5-30 Years): manufacturer cover for the panels, inverter and battery. Tier 1 panels carry 30-year linear performance warranties; SolarEdge optimisers carry 25 years; SolarEdge inverters 12 years; Solis 5 years standard (extendable to 20).

Lifetime Support from Spectrum: beyond formal warranties we provide ongoing technical support and claim coordination for as long as the system is in service.
