Solar designs we've done in Lincoln
These are real 3D roof designs from Spectrum quotes in Lincoln, for homes and businesses. Every solar quote we send includes one for your own roof, showing where each panel goes.

Commercial Solar Lincoln
Lincoln's engineering history continues at Siemens' industrial turbomachinery works, the former Ruston and Hornsby, and at Teal Park, an 87-acre site at the A46 and Whisby Road junction whose occupiers include Siemens gas-turbine operations and Greenray Turbines. Lincoln Business Park off Doddington Road and the Lincoln Science and Innovation Park add more commercial roofs.
Engineering, office and university buildings with daytime loads suit commercial solar, and we also cover shops and workshops across the city. Payback on commercial solar is typically around 4 to 8 years, driven mostly by how much of the power is used on site.
We handle the design, the grid application and maintenance afterwards, and businesses can claim capital allowances on the system cost (your accountant can confirm the relief). Read our guide to solar for businesses or see our case studies.
Residential Solar Lincoln: Landlords and Developers
Lincoln is growing: Charterholme, off Skellingthorpe Road, was approved for 3,200 homes in January 2022, and the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan also identifies the South East Quadrant near Bracebridge Heath. Developers can use solar towards Part L compliance, and landlords can use it to lift EPC ratings on the city's older terraces and council-built estates.
We run portfolio jobs as one project, with phased installs and Part P certification. Read about solar for property portfolios or new-build developments.
Domestic Solar Panels Lincoln: Homeowners
Solar on a Lincoln home reduces the electricity you import, and a battery stores spare generation from the day for the evening. We cover the whole city and the villages around it, from Birchwood and Boultham to Ermine, St Giles and North Hykeham.
Homes uphill and in some older streets fall within the city's conservation areas, so we check the planning position before we design, and on newer estates we check whether the home is on NGED or an independent network.
Domestic solar and battery installs are zero-rated for VAT, currently due to run until 31 March 2027 (the rate is set by when the job is installed and invoiced), and you are paid for exported power through the Smart Export Guarantee. We can add battery storage, EV charging and, if you want it, Home Assistant with Predbat as an optional extra.
What Matters for Solar in Lincoln
Planning and Conservation
City of Lincoln Council is the planning authority for the city, working to the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan it shares with North Kesteven and West Lindsey. Most home solar is permitted development, but Lincoln has 11 conservation areas, including Cathedral and City Centre, Lindum and Arboretum, West Parade and Brayford, Carline Road, Newport and Nettleham Road and Swanpool, and some named properties in the City Centre, Monks Road and Swanpool areas have Article 4 directions on physical alterations. North Hykeham, Waddington and Nettleham fall under North Kesteven or West Lindsey. We look up the rules for your address before we design.
Grid Connection
Lincoln is on National Grid Electricity Distribution's East Midlands network, not Northern Powergrid, whose area stops in northern Lincolnshire. Most homes need only a G98 notification, larger systems need G99 approval, and we read your MPAN first in case a newer estate is on an independent network.
Homes and Roofs
Lincoln's historic quarter is uphill around the Cathedral and the Bail, and its estates include Ermine, which was council-built, and Birchwood, which was built on the former RAF Skellingthorpe. The Lincoln Eastern Bypass opened in December 2020, and the North Hykeham Relief Road is under construction, due in 2029.

Kit, Warranties and Guarantees
We fit tier-one panels (30-year performance warranty on the models we use most), Solis hybrid inverters supplied with a 10-year warranty, and Fogstar batteries on most homes or Pylontech on larger commercial systems, and we can usually supply another make if you prefer; see our solar technology.
Every installation carries our 5-year workmanship guarantee and a QANW insurance-backed guarantee on top of the manufacturers' warranties, and Spectrum is insured through QBE UK Limited (£10M employers' liability, £5M public and products liability, £1M professional indemnity).
Accredited and Insured
How It Works
We start with a satellite view of your roof and your electricity use, then send an all-inclusive design and quote (subject to site survey), normally within 48 hours. A site survey confirms the details, we handle the grid paperwork, and most homes are installed in 1 to 2 days, around 4 to 6 weeks from first enquiry; our installation guide explains each step.
What Our Customers Say
★★★★★
"Brilliant company to deal with. From the initial chat about my requirements to installation, I can't fault one thing. I found Solar somewhat a minefield with some people trying to bamboozle me with information but Spectrum helped explain it in simple terms. The installation was faultless and they even called me 2 days later just to check everything was running OK. 10/10 team. Would definitely recommend."

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Lincoln on Northern Powergrid or NGED?
National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), through its East Midlands network. Northern Powergrid covers northern Lincolnshire, not Lincoln. Some newer estates may be on an independent network; your MPAN will show it.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels in Lincoln?
For most homes, no: rooftop solar is normally permitted development. It is different for listed buildings and can be in the city's 11 conservation areas, and some named properties have Article 4 directions. Any application goes to City of Lincoln Council, or to North Kesteven or West Lindsey for the surrounding villages.
Do you work outside the city, in places like North Hykeham?
Yes. We cover North Hykeham, Waddington, Bracebridge Heath, Washingborough, Nettleham, Skellingthorpe and Cherry Willingham, as well as the whole city.
Are solar panels worth it in Lincoln?
For most homes and businesses, yes. Payback is typically around 8 to 10 years for homes and 4 to 8 years for businesses, depending on your tariff and how much of the power you use yourself.
How much do solar panels cost in Lincoln?
We quote one all-inclusive price for your roof and your usage, covering scaffolding, labour, the grid application and certification, and the quote shows the projected savings and payback before you commit. Some grid connections also carry a network operator fee, typically around £153 plus VAT.
Do you offer finance?
No, we are not a credit broker. We give you a clear written quote to take to your own lender if you want to borrow, and we do take card payments if you want to use a credit card offer.
